The Winner of the 2015 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge Cruiser Class is Solar Team Eindhoven (STE). They crossed the finish line just 8 minutes behind the Japanese team, but in the cruiser class you can win extra points about how practical your 4-seated car is.
Big Dutch succes down under. Another Dutch team NUON Solar team from TU Delft did already cross the finish line first. Right on their tail the University of Twente became second.
In the beginning of this week Solar Team Eindhoven (STE) already broke a record to be the first vehicle with 4 seats to drive 1500 km on one charge with an average speed of 80 km/h. The other record is set by University of Twente. Never in the history of this race there was such a close finish. They crossed the finish line only 2 minutes behind team TU Delft. But University of Twente didn't go home empty handed, they won the Technical Innovation Award. That means these 3 Dutch teams gave an outstanding performance down under.
ACE ingenieurs- & adviesbureau is Donor-Sponsor of Solar Team Eindhoven (STE). The performance of this team might be even more interesting. They race in a different category for solar vehicles who should have at least 4 seats. They are less aerodynamic as the very fast solar cars from TUDelft and UTwente. But with this group of solar vehicle they are more aiming on the family cars we might drive in the future. These vehicles even have to be road legal to compete in this race. That makes this competition a great way to stimulate innovation for mobility of the future.
